Singer Sinead O'Connor, subject of criticism recently for tearing up a picture of the pope on "Saturday Night Live" and for other eccentric behavior, has donated her $750,000 California home to charity after watching an appeal for donations to aid Somalis on television, according to The Sun of London.

O'Connor, who bought the house in West Hollywood in 1990, called in Monday to the "ITV This Morning" show after a presenter urged viewers to help the starving Somalis. Her offer was accepted immediately, and the house will be auctioned off in London in February. If it fetches the purchase price, it could buy 51/2 million pounds of rice, enough to feed 1.5 million people for a week.
