As he travels around the country, a president can perhaps look forward to a stay in these presidential suites:
- Mansion at Turtle Creek, Dallas. The Terrace Suite, as its name implies, boasts a huge outdoor terrace on the hotel's top floor, the ninth, which is perfect for evening cocktail gatherings. The suite offers a bedroom, large bath, sitting room, dining room and kitchen for $1,200 a night.- Windsor Court, New Orleans. The Penthouse Suite occupies the 22nd floor, and it has two private patios for fine views of the historic old city. Inside are a library and a music room with a baby grand piano, along with two bedrooms, three baths, a large sitting room, dining room and kitchen. It goes for $2,500 a night, including limousine pickup at the airport.
- San Francisco Hilton. The Imperial Suite is a two-story complex atop the 19-floor Hilton, and the two levels are linked by a sweeping spiral staircase. (Its twin is called the State Suite.) On the first level are the sitting room, the master bedroom and a master bath with a sunken marble tub.
The second floor is designed for entertaining. President Bush recently was host there at a $1,000-a-plate lunch for 100 close supporters. The rental rate for the Imperial or the State is $2,500 a night.
- Bel-Air, Los Angeles. For a president who doesn't like heights, this hotel's Presidential Suite is situated on the ground floor and wrapped in the seclusion of a private garden with a whirlpool hot tub on the patio. With two bedrooms, the rate is $2,000 a night.
- Four Seasons, Philadelphia. A four-poster bed dominates the huge master bedroom of the seventh-floor Presidential Suite. With living room, dining room and a whirlpool tub in the bath, it goes for $985 a night.
- Chicago Hilton and Towers. In the exuberant words of the hotel's publicist, the two-story Conrad Hilton Suite is "a pleasure-seeker's palace," designed and built at a cost of $1.6 million.
Located on the 29th and 30th floors, which are linked by a spiral staircase, the suite is decorated with the opulence of a French chateau.
