An 18-year-old Milwaukee woman convicted of killing a teenager for her leather coat a year ago received a mandatory life sentence.

But Circuit Judge Michael Guolee gave Felicia Morgan leniency Monday by declining to set a date when she will become eligible for parole, meaning she automatically becomes eligible in 13 years.Brenda Adams, 17, was killed Oct. 26, 1991, as the girls struggled over the victim's leather coat. Authorities said the shooting capped Morgan's armed robbery spree that included thefts of a $500 necklace, a pair of leather tennis shoes and two jackets.

"What you've done is terrible, but you're not a hardened criminal," the judge told Morgan.
