Tina Gonzales Garcia Polanco, 58, died Dec. 20, 1992 peacefully at her home from the complications of diabetes. Her beloved children were at her side.
Born May 31, 1934 to Bernardo and Sarita Archuleta Gonzales in Ojo, Caliente, New Mexico. She married Frank Garcia, Sr.; later divorced. Married Joseph Polanco; he preceded her in death. Tina, a retired federal investigator for the Federal Government loved her job, the travel, the people she worked with. Tina provided leadership in the Hispanic Community for many years. She helped bring about social changes for Hispanics in securing better education, access to economic opportunities and greater understanding and knowledge of civil rights. She served on various boards and organizations at State and Federal levels. She has received several recognition awards for her outstanding involvement in issues related to the Hispanic Community including "Hispanic Woman of the Year" in 1989.She is survived by five sons, Frank (Susan) Garcia; Ernest (Marcia) Garcia; Tommy Garcia, Victor Garcia and Tony Garcia; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Teresa) Archuleta; Mrs. Robert (Bonnie) Segura; three sisters, Blanche Vialpando; Orelia Fernandez and Bonnie Jean Gonzales; and 20 grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Max and Gilbert Gonzales and sister, Frances Montanez.
A very special thanks to Dr. Robert Powell and staff at FHP Senior Citizens Center, Daniel and Joyce Dix, Gustavo Loza, Barbara Castill Moore and a very special thanks to Penelope Moore, who helped our mother find her way home and also became a very dear friend to us.
We will all miss you Mom
and you will always be in our hearts.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday,
10 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South. A vigil service will be held Wednesday 7 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call from 6-7 p.m. Committal: Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
