The story behind the nose is told in "Movie Anecdotes" (Oxford University Press, $8.95) by Peter Hay.Heston was cast, in part, as Moses because Cecil B. De Mille, while doing research for the film, discovered that Michelangelo's statue of Moses had its nose broken in the same place as Heston's.
