Directions: Take main paved road west of Monticello for about a mile, then turn southwest for about two miles. Lake very close to road.

Description: Nearly 104 surface acres when full. About 15 feet deep in winter, twice that when full. Surrounded by pinon and oak brush, a little higher find pines and aspens. Located right on the edge of a national forest.

Fish: Rainbow trout

What works: Traditional baits work best here - night crawlwers, salmon eggs, cheese and power bait. Good place to try small spinners like Jake's spin-a-lure, panther martin and mepps. In the summer try fly and a bubble.

Details: Secret here is to fish off the bottom. When iced over in the winter getting out into deeper water easy. Good place for small boats and float tubes. Fish shallow in spring and late fall. In summer fish from shore in the mornings and late afternoons, then head for inlet mid-day. Fly and bubble also works well early mornings and late afternoons.

Notes: This lake located in beautiful mountain setting. Not much camping around lake, but good camping areas at higher elevations. Nearby town of Monticello offers full range of services. Most of the fish in the 1/2-pound and over range. In winter check on ice conditions before heading that way.
