John A. Dixon, M.D., 68, died February 15, 1992, Salt Lake City, Utah, of complications from heart surgery.
Born July 16, 1923 in Provo, Utah to H. Aldous and Lucile K. Dixon. Married Karma Jeppsen September 28, 1944.Survived by wife, Salt Lake City; son, Steven J. Dixon, Bountiful; daughters, Mrs. David Lee (Kay), Lisa, both Salt Lake City; sisters, Mrs. Jack Shaw (Phyllis), Mrs. Virl Harrison (Dorothy), Mrs. Ferrin Larkin
(Louise), all of Ogden; Mrs. Mark Cannon (Ruth), Salt Lake City; brother, David, Boise, ID.
Educated in Provo and Ogden. Attended Weber State College, 1940-1942; Idaho State University, Fall 1943; University of Washington, Spring 1943; University of Utah, BS, 1944; and received his MD degree from the University of Utah, MD, 1947. Received ScD, 1979 (Honorary) from the University of Utah and PhD, 1974 (Honorary) from Weber State College. Served in U.S. Navy in World War II, and the U.S. Air Force in Japan and Korea. Chief of Surgery, McKay-Dee Hospital; Ogden City Councilman; Chairman, Utah State Board of Health; President, Utah State Medical Association; President, American Laser Society; at the University of Utah - Regent, Executive Vice-President, Vice-President for Health Sciences, Dean, College of Medicine, Professor of Surgery, and Director of John A. Dixon Laser Institute. Researcher in medical lasers and author of medical texts and scientific papers.
