Woods Cross High School principal J. Wallace Hawkins has been named as a new area director for Davis County Schools.
Hawkins was selected from a field of candidates for the administrative position. Final approval must be voted by the Board of Education to complete the process of filling the vacancy left by the death in December of Grant Steed. As an area director he will provide support to principals, schools and residents.
Hawkins has spent his 22-year educational career in Davis schools. He has been the principal and assistant principal at South Davis Junior High School. He has also has been a teacher and coach at Bountiful High School and Woods Cross High School.
The replacement process for the Woods Cross principal position will begin soon. It is planned that Hawkins will continue as principal until that process is complete.
While looking forward to new challenges associated with the district role, Hawkins leaves Woods Cross with some reluctance.
"I appreciated the close associations at this school; we've been like a family at Woods Cross with strong ties between the faculty, students and community," he said.
