Mr. Leslie J. Fyans, 70, formerly of Springfield, and Salt Lake City, Utah, of Carol Stream, Illinois died Tuesday, February 25, 1992 in Carol Stream.

He graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana. During World War II Mr. Fyans served as a 1st Lieutenant in the medical unit with the Third Army in Europe. During combat, he won four Bronze Stars with Clusters and a Silver Star in the Battle of the Bulge.During his career, he was president and chief executive officer of Gunsite Oil and Mining Corporation in Utah and Colorado. Later, he was awarded the Commendation in 1974 from the President of the United States for the President's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped. He also received a Commendation from the Federal Executive Board of Chicago, and won the Fairbarin National Award from the National Rehabilitation Association in 1985.

Surviving are his second wife, Sue, of Carol Stream, Ill.; his children, Dr. Leslie J. "Jack" Fyans, Jr., Springfield; John J. Fyans, Watertown, Wisc.; Leslie J. Picco Fyans III and Angela Marie Picco Fyans, both of Springfield; a brother, The Honorable J. Thomas Fyans, and a sister, Fay

Kooyman, both of Salt Lake City. Mr. Fyans was preceded in death by a sister, May Fyans Carr, and a brother, Joseph Fyans.

Remains are at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel where friends may call from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be private and will be held, 11 a.m. Friday at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel. Burial, Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct Military Honors. Those who wish may direct Memorial Contributions to the Bethesda Lutheran Home.
