Didrik Marksten of Norway leaped into the pre-Olympic spotlight by winning Sunday's giant slalom, beating Italian star Alberto Tomba. Marksten, whose previous best in a World Cup race was sixth, finished with a two-run time of 2 minutes, 43.32 seconds. Tomba finished second in 2:43.59 and Markus Wasmeier of Germany was third in 2:44.02.

Paul Accola of Switzerland, who won Saturday's super giant slalom at Megeve with a time of 1:28.85, dropped out early in the second run after finishing 15th in the first run. He leads the overall World Cup standings with 1,370 points, followed by Tomba with 1,140.
