Christ United Methodist Church will commemorate its 100th anniversary in Salt Lake City Sunday, Feb. 23, during a centennial celebration service.
Rocky Mountain Conference Bishop Roy Sano will deliver the sermon. The 10 a.m. service will be held in the Villa Theater, 3092 S. Highland Drive, to accommodate an expected large attendance.The service will feature music by the renowned Wesley Bell Ringers, Chancel Choir and Children's Choir, and liturgical dance. There will be no Sunday School but child care for preschoolers will be provided at the church. A noon luncheon will be served in the Fellowship Hall.
A pioneer Methodist minister, the Rev. Lewis Hartsough, arrived in Salt Lake City in December 1869. The Liberty Park Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in 1892. The church relocated to its present site at 2375 E. 3300 South in 1952.
