Douglas J. McVey, 46, administrator of the State Industrial Commission's Occupational Safety and Health Division, died March 18, 1992, in Midvale of a heart attack.

Mr. McVey was instrumental in ensuring that the state - rather than the federal government - administer the Occupational Health and Safety Administration safety program. He was also a strong advocate of a section of the OSHA act that governed a safe workplace for employees.He started working for OSHA Jan. 30, 1973, as an accountant. On June 16, 1978, he was appointed assistant administrator and on June 15, 1984, was appointed administrator.

He was active in the Boy Scouts and with the young people in sports in his church.

Funeral will be Saturday, March 21, at 11 a.m. in the Sandy Midvalley 1st LDS Ward, 1211 E. 7800 South, where friends may call one hour before the service. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery.
