Travis Knight of Alta High School has been awarded Gatorade's Mountain Regional High School Boys Basketball Player of the Year award. Gatorade is also honoring Cindy Jensen, a 5-9 guard, for Hillcrest High, with its Utah Player of the Year award for girls.

The award is based on athletic and academic performance.Knight, 6-11, led Alta to the 4A boys championship, averaging 16 points and 11 rebounds a game. He has a 3.89 grade point average and scored 1360 on the SAT. The Mountain Region represents Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho and Montana. Knight is now eligible for the national honor, which went to Chris Webber last year. Webber is a key member of Michigan's team this year.
