Fast runs brought John Ethen and Katie Wasilewski wins on Sunday, but consistency will put the names of Nicholes Robichon and Kristen Stout on the face of the Snow Cup.

Ethen, an all-America racer for the University of Utah, won Sunday's men's giant slalom event, while Wasilewski, a Park City junior racer, won the women's race.Names that go on the Snow Cup, however, are the overall winners. Robichon's first on Saturday and fourth Sunday put him in the lead and Stout's two thirds were enough to give her the crown.

This race marked the first time Snowbird has held the race, and was the first time in the 20-year history of the resort it has used its certified GS course.

Ethen echoed the feelings of many other races when he called the course, "one of the most challenging" he's skied.

"You don't get a chance to ski a course like that over often, and when you do get a chance you have to be ready," he said.

But not everyone was ready, especially on the second run. A tight turn three gates from the finish took out several, including the first and sixth place skiers after the first run.

Ethen was, in fact, in fourth after the first run, but posted the fastest second run to win with a time of one minute, 53.42 seconds. Second was Charles List of Park City, in 1:53.84 and third was Dave Zeimer of Utah, in 1:55.79. Robichon's time was 1:55.68.

Wasilewski, who was seventh on Saturday, had the fastest times on both runs to win handily with a time of 2:07.71. Third was Snowbird's Heidi von Allmen in 2:08.11 and third was Stout with a 2:08.81.

The race, in its 50th year and sponsored by First Security Bank, is one of the oldest races in the country.
