Winston M. Crawford, 80, former Orem mayor and business leader, died April 10, 1992, of coronary complications in a Provo hospital.
Mr. Crawford was elected Orem mayor in the 1960s after serving four years on the City Council. He served as mayor for six years. He was a former Orem City Chamber of Commerce president and helped organize the Utah County United Fund drive and the Utah Valley Industrial Development Association.He served for six years with the Utah State Department of Public Instruction as a training specialist and was training director at Geneva Steel for 28 years before retiring in 1976. Mr. Crawford was also appointed to the State Peace Officers Training Council by Gov. Calvin Rampton.
In 1980, he received the Arthur V. Watkins Outstanding Citizen Award in Orem. He had also been given the Touch Award for outstanding service to the community from the American Society for Training organization.
Mr. Crawford served as a stake mission president, bishop's counselor, stake high councilor and many other positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday in the Orem Sharon Stake Center, 545 S. 800 East. Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S. State, Orem, and Tuesday from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the stake center. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
