The basketball comedy "White Men Can't Jump" won the box office crown for the second week in row.
Pairing Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson as a pickup hoops team, the film earned $10.2 million, Exhibitor Relations Co. reported."Basic Instinct," the sex- and violence-filled thriller with Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone, earned $10.1 million for second place.
Orion Pictures re-released Oscar winner "The Silence of the Lambs" on April 3, but said box-office figures were not immediately available. The thriller won five Academy Awards, including best picture, best actor and best actress.
"Beethoven," a new comedy about a big dog, sold $7.6 million in tickets for third place. No. 4 was Dolly Parton's new "Straight Talk," with $4.6 million.
Here are the estimated top movie ticket sales Friday through Sunday:
1. "White Men Can't Jump," $10.2 million ($29.1 million, two weeks).
2. "Basic Instinct," $10.1 million ($49.1 million, three weeks).
3. "Beethoven," $7.6 million (first week).
4. "Straight Talk," $4.6 million (first week).
5. "Thunderheart," $4.5 (first week).
6. "Wayne's World," $4.4 million ($93.3 million, eight weeks).
7. "My Cousin Vinny," $3.9 million ($30.7 million, four weeks).
8. "The Cutting Edge," $3.4 million ($9.1 million, two weeks).
9. "Ladybugs," $3.2 million ($9.4 million, two weeks).
10. "Rock-a-Doodle," $2.6 million (first week).
