"The situation presents itself in less dramatic form, but we must remember we are waging an uneven struggle and the monster (volcano) is very strong," Minister of Civil Protection Nicola Capria told reporters Wednesday. He explained that the cause of the stoppage in the flow about halfway down the mountain was that the lava had broken out of the underground passage it had created and was superimposing itself on cold lava that flowed earlier.
