Alfred Pupunu, Weber State's record setting tight end, signed a free agent contract today with the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League. Pupunu will report to the Chief's rookie camp next week.

Pupunu, a 6-3, 250-pounder who played at South High School in Salt Lake City and at Dixie Junior College in St. George, was NCAA Division 1-AA's leading receiver this past season. Pupunu caught 93 passes for 1,204 yards and 12 touchdowns, helping the Wildcats to an 8-4-0 record and a berth in the 1-AA playoffs. His 93 catches and 12 TD receptions, are both Weber State single season records, and tied the school's single game reception record, with 15 catches vs. Idaho State. He was named First Team Division 1-AA All-American on the Associated Press, Walter Camp and Sports Network teams. He was also First Team All-Big Sky Conference.

Pupunu's season is even more remarkable when you consider that during his first year at WSU as a junior (1990), he caught only eight passes for 87 yards and no touchdowns.
