A British stunt pilot was killed Saturday when his small biplane crashed into an airfield during his performance of aerial acrobatics, police reported.

Police identified the dead pilot as Mike Tyrrel, 45, known in flying circles for stunts that earned him the nickname "Red Baron," after the German World War I flying ace.Witnesses said Tyrrel's plane was coming out of a spin about 100 feet above the Villanova d'Albenga airfield when it plummeted to the ground.
