THE PRINCIPAL
Randall J. Merrill became principal of Timpview High School in the summer of 1990.
Education: Merrill received a bachelor's degree in zoology, master's degree in physiology and administrative endorsement, Utah State University.
Career: He spent eight years teaching at Union High School in Roosevelt and one year at Springville High before coming to Timpview.
Likes: "I love the kids. I like working with the families and the staff. This staff is first-rate. I think the school is first-rate - it's a great place to lead."
Dislikes: "I'm pressured with financial issues. The financial demands are great here, but the finances don't always match up to those demands."
Outlook: "We have developed a strategic plan that has to do with preparing students better to move out in society - to be better communicators, better family members, lifelong learners and better consumers."

Number of students: 1,712
Making the grade: Average GPA for the 1992 senior class is 3.43. Students enrolled in Advanced Placement classes total 526 and have the highest exam passing rate in the state - 85 percent. 1991 SAT scores for juniors: 74th percentile.

DID YOU KNOW?
This year, Timpview had three Sterling Scholars. Three students won Ezra Taft Benson scholarships out of 24 offered worldwide from BYU. School received 1991 Governor's Award of Excellence, including a $10,000 award.
THE GRADUATES
Class of '92 scholarships: So far this year, seniors have been offered more than $280,000 in scholarships. Hall of Fame: Bruce Brockbank, BYU's golf coach; Amy Baird Miner, first female BYUSA president at BYU.
