The wife of the missing president of Exxon Co. International has been contacted by people claiming to have kidnapped the oil executive, a company spokesman said Saturday.

In a statement Exxon prepared late Friday, Patricia Reso appealed to those holding Sidney Reso, saying she would do anything to gain her husband's safe return. The statement marked the first time anyone connected with the case has publicly acknowledged contact with people claiming to be holding Reso. Authorities have refused to confirm or deny reports he has been abducted.

Reso, 57, said goodbye to his wife as he left home for work the morning of April 29. His car was later found empty and idling at the foot of his winding driveway in Morris Township in northern New Jersey.
