Sales of existing homes fell 0.3 percent in April after rising for two consecutive months, the National Association of Realtors said Tuesday.

Existing homes sold at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.5 million units in April, down from 3.51 million units in March.Sales rose an upwardly revised 0.6 percent in March. The NAR previously estimated March sales were unchanged. Existing home sales rose 8.4 percent in February.

April existing home sales were 7 percent higher than in April 1991.

The national median home price fell 1.3 percent to $102,700 in April from $104,000 in March. The April median home price was 2.2 percent higher than the $100,500 price tag in April 1991.

In the West, sales rose 8.1 percent to a rate of 800,000 units after falling 2.6 percent in March. The median home sales price was $141,400, down 1.6 percent from March.

In the Northeast, sales fell 7.2 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 510,000 units after climbing 12.2 percent in March. The median home sales price was $142,700, down 1.9 percent from March.
