About 450 of the Ogden School District's 600 teachers signed petitions Tuesday calling for the resignation of Ogden Superintendent James West.
Other district workers also signed petitions circulated by school-level representatives of the Ogden Education Association, for a total of 670 signatures, said OEA spokeswoman Ann Moulton. The association has issued a no-confidence vote against the superintendent.
The petitions were a result of a growing conflict between district personnel and the superintendent. The dissatisfaction arose from the announcement earlier that the district would be about $1 million in the red if personnel cutbacks were not made. Bookkeeping errors accounted for some of the budget problems.
West's secretary said he was in meetings in Salt Lake City Wednesday morning and not available for comment.
Moulton said she and other OEA officers were to meet Wednesday night with the Ogden School Board to discuss the petition results. She said the union believes the trust level has deteriorated to a point it is no longer possible to mend fences.
