It might be summer school vacation time, but Arturo Hoffman went to class anyway.
The 18-year-old Hoffman of Dade City, Fla., who will be a high school senior in the fall, was outpointed 5-0 by Tim Austin in a 112-pound quarterfinal bout at the U.S. Olympic Boxing Trials Thursday night at the Centrum.Hoffman is looking forward to the Olympics - the 1996 Games in Atlanta.
Robert Allen, a 23-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., also learned the value of experience when he was stopped at 2:40 of the third round of a 156-pound bout by Raul Marquez of Houston.
Others who took steps toward making the team for the Barcelona Olympics were Vernon Forrrest and Terron Millett, each 139.
Forrest, of Augusta, Ga., a silver medalist at the World Championships, outpointed Robert Frazier of Rochester, N.Y., 4-1.
Millett, of St. Louis, forced Emanuel Porter of Jacksonville, Fla., to take three standing 8-counts enroute to a 5-0 verdict.
