Murphy Brown's out-of-wedlock child is played by a test-tube baby born to a surrogate mother.

"The media interest just isn't really as big as some of the other stuff that's been happening to us," said Brian Fascella, the father of the baby, Danica Fascella.Brian Fascella said he and his wife, Alice, nicknamed Danica (pronounced DAN-uh-ka) "Danny Boy" after Vice President Dan Quayle criticized the CBS sitcom for its portrayal of an unmarried mother.

Danica and her twin, Cynthia, were conceived with the Fascellas' sperm and egg. Cynthia Miller, a second cousin of Alice Fascella, served as the surrogate mother.
