Jesse Jackson said Tuesday that Bill Clinton's economic program heads in "the right direction, down the right road" but revived his complaint of an affront from the Democratic presidential candidate.
Speaking to the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the civil rights leader renewed his vow not to endorse Clinton or any other candidate before next month's Democratic National Convention in New York.Jackson did say Clinton's $50 billion program, which would be financed by tax increases and spending cuts, "allows the national debate to shift to real issues."
"It deserves serious analysis and comprehensive debate," Jackson said. "To paraphrase a gospel song, he has come a long way from where he started."
But Jackson complained anew about Clinton's
criticism of harshly worded racial remarks by rapper Sister Souljah.
