The family of a toddler who died following an August accident at Raging Waters has sued the water park for $1 million for not providing a safe area for the family to picnic.

Richard and Paula Klock, Sandy, filed the wrongful death suit against the company in 3rd District Court. Their daughter, Rebecca, 2, died following an Aug. 11 accident at the park, 1200 W. 1700 South. The Klocks were having a picnic with Rebecca and her older brother when the incident occurred. Paula Klock had just taken Rebecca's life jacket off and turned to get her daughter's lunch when the child disappeared.

A picnicker saw Rebecca floating in a nearby hot tub. A medical technician and physician revived the child at the park before she was taken by ambulance to Primary Children's Medical Center.

However, the chemicals in the hot tub severely damaged the youngster's lungs. She died nearly two weeks later from complications resulting from respiratory distress syndrome.

Richard and Paula Klock contend they had requested a picnic area safe for small children.

The 4-foot-deep hot tub was not separated from the children's area, had no warning signs and was not staffed by a lifeguard, the 3rd District suit said.

A spokesman at the park declined comment.
