The grave of an American prisoner of war has been found in southern Russia, according to an ITAR-Tass news agency report.

The grave of Francesco Luigi Di Bartolomeo was discovered in a cemetery near the city of Tambov, 260 miles south of Moscow, the agency reported Tuesday.Details about Di Bartolomeo were not immediately available.

The search for American POWs in Russia intensified following a revelation by President Boris N. Yeltsin that captured U.S. servicemen might still be alive on Russian soil.

But former U.S. Ambassador Malcolm Toon, sent by President Bush to investigate the issue, said Tuesday that the search so far had come up empty.
