Ground was broken Tuesday for the newest branch of America First Credit Union, at 1356 S. Main. The facility is scheduled to open in February of 1993.

"With 1,469 members already in Utah County, America First Credit Union knew this was a prime area to plan expansion," said James J. Dawson, president of the credit union. "We will offer the full menu of America First financial services at the facility."These services include a loan department, mortgage services, insurance and financial counseling. The design includes four drive-up lanes plus a drive-up automatic teller machine.

Mike Crossley has been appointed as the manager of Utah County's first branch. He has been employed with America First for more than a decade. The branch will employ 11 employees and tellers, four loan officers, an insurance adviser and a financial counselor.

"I already know many of the Utah County members, as a good number are utilizing West Valley as their primary branch. I am looking forward to bringing our quality member service closer to their homes," Crossley said.

America First Credit Union was founded in 1939, with opening assets of just $25, when 59 members of the National Federation of Federal Employees created the Fort Douglas Civilian Employees Federal Credit Union.
