Americans can vote for their heroes in the 4th annual National Hero Awards, sponsored by Chesebrough-Pond's USA. The awards benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America.
American heroes will be chosen from eight categories: arts, entertainment, business, kids, legendary, lifesavers and crusaders, and music and sports by direct balloting through Sept. 30. Voters can use a free-standing insert in Sunday's Deseret News, the Aug. 3 issue of People Magazine or by obtaining a ballot at any store where the company's personal-care products are sold.Big Brothers will have ballots available at their office, 3999 S. Main, No. S1 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Sept. 11. For every ballot returned, Chesebrough-Pond's will donate $1 to the organization, up to $200,000.
Winners will be announced Oct. 26 in New York City. Last year, more than 75,000 Americans voted.
The Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Salt Lake serves nearly 500 children from single-parent homes. But more than 150 are still waiting for a big brother or sister. For information, call 265-1818.
