Roy Watkins Doxey, beloved and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Monday morning, Aug. 10, 1992 of cancer.
Born Feb. 27, 1908 in Ogden, Utah to Thomas and Bessie Doxey. He married Alberta Opeikins, August 6, 1934 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After her passing in 1986, he married Ruth Tanner Walker. His life was a life of service to family, church and fellowmen. He served his church on a mission in Canada, a temple mission in England, as a mission president in the Eastern States Mission, and accepted calls as a general board member, a stake president, a Regional Representative, a patriarch, a temple sealer, Director of Correlation Review, a staff member of the Quorum of the Twelve, a teacher, and in many other capacities.He worked as a professor and administrator at BYU from 1948 to 1975 serving as Department Chairman of the Bible and Modern Scripture Dept. and as Dean of the College of Religious Instruction. He authored 12 books, wrote articles for LDS Church publications and has lectured powerfully on religious subjects.
Survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Cheryl Julian, Kimball and Clarke Doxey, all of Bountiful; 29 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas, Provo.
Funeral services Friday, August 14, at 12 noon, Eagle Gate Stake Center, 135 North A Street in Salt Lake City. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Thursday evening 6-8 p.m., and at the ward Friday, 10:45-11:45 a.m.
Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
