Children playing with a cigarette lighter started an apartment fire in South Salt Lake Tuesday morning, said South Salt Lake fire officials. Although no one was injured in the blaze, damage is estimated at $41,000.
The two boys, 2 and 3 years old, were staying with their aunt and uncle at 3064 S. 320 East apparently while their parents were out of town, said Capt. John Nash of South Salt Lake City fire department. Although both children were in the apartment when the fire started, they were taken to safety after neighbors alerted the fire department."The fire had a good start before we got there," Nash said. "There were flames coming out of the front, the rear and the eves of the apartment building. It was lucky there was no one trapped inside."
