Almost three years after weathercaster Dave Nemeth joined KTVX-Ch. 4, he's an-nounced his impending departure from the station.
Nemeth is leaving to "pursue his musical and professional interests." A singer and musician, Nemeth fronts the band Under the Gun.According to KTVX general manager Peter Mathes, he has been meeting with Nemeth and his agent for several months. And Nemeth decided that his band would take precedence.
"That really is a priority for him in his life," Mathes said. "It came down to him deciding that's where he wanted to focus."
He emphasized that Nemeth and the station are parting on the best of terms. "He's going to be on the air through November, and his contract is up in September," Mathes said. "He said he'd do whatever he could to help us out."
Nemeth's replacement will be Dan Pope, a native Utahn and graduate of the University of Utah. He's currently the weekend meteorologist and environmental reporter at WISN in Milwaukee.
He's scheduled to take to the air on KTVX's 5:30 and 10 p.m. newscasts in December.
KTVX has undergone considerable changes recently. In 1991 Randall Carlisle replaced Phil Riesen as co-anchor and Carl Arky replaced Steve Brown as sports anchor, leaving co-anchor Kimberly Perkins - who recently signed a new contract with the station - as the veteran of the on-camera crew.
