CAROLYN RINGGER, author of "Reaching Toward Heaven," will offer a seminar Wednesday, Sept. 16, and Thursday, Sept. 17, on tapping into and understanding the principles of faith and positive thinking. Seminars will run from 6-9 p.m. at Cottonwood Hospital. For more information call 966-1356.

- RON CARL-SON, a writer who's become one of Utah's favorite sons, returns from Arizona this week to read at the Waking Owl Bookstore, 208 S. 1300 East, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. He will read from his new collection of stories, "Plan B for the Middle Class." For information call 582-7323.- DOREEN RAPPAPORT, author of the children's book "Escape from Slavery," will appear at A Woman's Place in the Cottonwood Mall at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. She will sign copies of her book and give a reading.
