Here are some reader nominations of Wasatch Front residents who make a difference in their communities through volunteer work or other such service:
- Sharon Lee:Lee has spent numerous hours at Liberty Elementary School teaching kids how to cross the street safely. She was also involved in the start of a safety program at the school.
- David Butcher:
Butcher provides literacy training to offenders in a community correctional center. He also trains the staff on the computer literacy program and is described as doing a great job in this 12-hour-per-week volunteer service.
- Lynda Healy, Janet Churchtown and Sue Rasmussen:
These three women provide countless hours of volunteer time and dedication to the well-being of students at Westbrook Elementary School. They not only spend volunteer hours working on academic concerns, but also on extras like quilting and ceramics.
- Marje and Tom Jacobsen:
The Jacobsens are described as providing help to anyone who needs it, and they are always the first ones to rush in with assistance despite Tom Jacobsen's own health problems.
"It's hard to explain the envy I feel toward these two, but they are the most perfect people I ever met," their nominator said. "I am 18 and would love to path my life after them . . . I'd do anything for these two and I know they'd do the same," their nominator concluded.
- Jake Deines, Nick Rampton, Logan Havenstein, Brandon Trayner, Gary Burt and Tobin Kelly:
These recent Rosslyn Heights Elementary School graduates volunteered their time this year to be summer school helpers.
- Vera Bethers:
Bethers helps the sick and needy neighbors by helping take care of their gardens, bringing them food and transporting them to various appointments, such as the doctor's office.
