Reta Alexander Egbert, 88, died January 9, 1993, in Salt Lake City.
Born January 6, 1905, in Panguitch, Utah to Thomas Murphy and Rosella Matilda Alexander. Educated in schools in Garfield County. Attended BYU and USC; graduate of BYU.Taught school in Escalante, Henrieville, Panguitch, and in Provo 'till she retired after 41 years of teaching. Married Maitland Griffin Spencer; later divorced. Married Howard B. Egbert June 1951. He preceded her in death. Active in the LDS Church, serving in many positions. Active in the Democratic party in Utah County, serving on the county committee as well as precinct duties. Active in civic affairs: Member of the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah, UEA, NEA, Delta Kappa Gamma, BPW, and Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Survived by: One son, Dr. Maitland G. Spencer, Salt Lake City; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Ann Christensen and Carolyn Woffinden; one brother, D.E. Alexander, Provo. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Funeral services Wednesday, January 13, 1993, 12 noon, Provo 15th Ward Chapel, 85 South 900 East, Provo. Friends may call Tuesday evening, 6 to 8 p.m., at Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, and at the ward chapel on Wednesday, one hour prior to services. Interment, East Lawn Memorial Hills, Provo.
