The worst game Marshall Faulk ever played against Hawaii still was good enough to earn him a place in the NCAA record book.
Faulk rushed 27 times for 175 yards and four touchdowns Saturday night, leading San Diego State to a 45-14 win over Hawaii. He also caught three passes for 94 yards. In three games against the Rainbows, Faulk has rushed for 687 yards, breaking the record for most rushing yards against an opponent previously held by Herschel Walker, who gained 649 yards for Georgia against Florida.
Faulk - who ran for 212 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman against Hawaii and 300 yards and four TDs last season - could only smile when told it was his worst game ever against the Rainbows.
"I'm not complaining," he said.
Faulk's four touchdowns brought his total against Hawaii to 13, and helped to reassert his claim as the nation's top running back after a slow start in which he gained 474 yards in the first five games and hurt his chances to win the Heisman Trophy.
