Fiberglass domes in downtown Los Angeles may look like a moon colony, but to two dozen homeless people, they'll be dome sweet home. Beginning in November, homeless people will move into 18 white domes erected along the Harbor Freeway by the nonprofit Justiceville Homeless USA. The temporary village of 20-foot-tall, two-room domes is called the Genesis I Transitional Community. "What these people need to get back in the mainstream is some stability, a place to put their possessions," said David Adams, executive director of Justiceville. "Without a place like this, they will continue to be nomads." Genesis' residents, who now live in an encampment behind the domes, will share kitchen, laundry and toilet facilities and will be paid by Justiceville to clean streets and perform other tasks. Atlantic Richfield Co. put up $250,000 for the project.
