A Dallas judge has ordered actor Judd Nelson to serve two years probation after Nelson pleaded no contest to an assault charge brought by a 22-year-old woman who claimed Nelson kicked her in the head during an altercation at a bar. The misdemeanor charge against Nelson, 33, will be erased from his record if he completes his sentence.
According to court records, Nelson and actress Shannen Doherty, whom he was dating at the time, were seated on the patio of a Dallas bar May 16 when Kim Evans and three other women on a nearby tavern patio began to taunt Nelson, saying his career was in a slump. Witness accounts of what happened next varied.A security guard at the bar testified that Nelson kicked Evans karate-style, causing her head to bounce off the table. But another witness said Nelson's foot became entangled in a chair as he tried to leap over a railing to confront one of the women, causing the leg of the chair to hit Evans' head. Evans, who claimed that she suffered headaches and dizzy spells for days, said she was dissatisfied with the judge's ruling.
