Joan Allred died on September 21, 1993, at her home in Salt Lake City.
She was born on August 28, 1924 in Three Forks, Montana, to Pearl and Thatcher Allred. She was raised in Ogden, Utah, where she married Raymond T. Sanders, from whom she was later divorced. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah.Joan was a writer. She published two biographies (one, a collaboration), four novels, various short stories, poems, and a play. The larger works were all published under the name Joan Sanders. Some were published in England as well as in the United States, and one was translated into French and German. Joan also taught English and writing at colleges in Utah and California.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Carole Sanders of Salt Lake City; her brother, Gordon Allred (wife, Sharon) of Ogden; her sister, Penny Wright (husband, Brad) of San Anselmo, Calif.; and her grandchildren, Charlotte and Nicholas Sanders.
Her brother Gordon will hold an open house for relatives. Joan's friends are invited to an open house in her memory at her son's house on October 10 between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m.
