This central New York city, about 80 miles east of Binghamton, has a variety of hotels, motels and bed-and-breakfast establishments to cater to visitors.

Corning is a good touring base to also visit the college town of Ithaca, about 40 miles northeast, or sites associated with Mark Twain at Elmira, about 20 miles west. Day trips from Rochester (100 miles north) or New York City (about 250 miles southeast) may be impractical, so a local stayover is advised. To reach the Corning Glass Center, take Route 17 into Corning and follow the signs.
