Cory Beynon kicked a 23-yard field goal with 12:06 remaining to give Southern Utah a 20-17 victory over Cal State Northridge on Saturday night.
Northridge (4-6 overall, 1-3 American West) trailed 17-0 in the second quarter before scoring three straight times to tie it up. A 77-yard run by Robert Trice evened things at 17-all with 6:36 to play in the game.The Thunderbirds (2-7-1, 2-1) then moved 8 yards on four plays to set up Beynon's second field goal of the game.
The victory was Southern Utah's third straight over Northridge.
Joe Straw scored on a 52-yard interception return to give the Thunderbirds a 6-0 lead.
Joe Dodgson added a 3-yard TD run and Beynon kicked a 32-yarder as Southern Utah went up 17-0.
Northridge finally scored on Mark Harper's 1-yard run with 4:05 to play in the second.
Matt Ornelaz kicked a 31-yard field goal and Robert Trice scored on a 77-yard run to even the game, 17-all.
Daniel Harris led Southern Utah's running game with 126 yards on 23 carries. Rick Robbins was 10-of-20 for 125 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.
The Matadors were led by Trice with 157 yards on 24 carries.
