Two Provo men were killed Tuesday when their car was struck by an Amtrak train near Geneva Steel.

Killed were:Jaime Gonzales, 31.

Alaro Fernandez, 24.

Orem Police Capt. Ron Mosher said Gonzales was driving northbound on Geneva Road about 5:33 a.m. when he came to a flashing and guarded railroad crossing at 350 S. Geneva Road. A freight train was stopped at the intersection waiting for the Amtrak train to pass.

Gonzales drove around the gates, and his 1983 Nissan Sentra was struck broadside by the southbound Amtrak train. Gonzales and Fernandez were both pronounced dead at the scene. No one else suffered injuries in the accident.
