City government got a big stamp of approval with all three incumbents winning easily in Tuesday's election.
Mayor Delora Bertelsen outdistanced challenger Paul Young by more than 1,000 votes to earn her second term as the city's leader. Bertelsen, who served two terms on the City Council before becoming mayor, said this will be her last term.Council members Glade Y. Creer and Gordon Smith won easily over Clark Day and Lee Measom to earn their second terms on the City Council. All three incumbents are members of the Progressive Party. About 35 percent of Springville voters cast ballots.
Bertelsen said Tuesday's results show that most residents support the direction of the city and approve of how current officials are managing growth. In the past four years, the city bonded for a new water line down Hobble Creek Canyon, started several road projects and imposed impact fees on developers.
However, Bertelsen would like to know why some voters are dissatisfied with the city. She encourages residents to contact city officials to discuss their concerns.
"I'd like to know more about what they would like or how they think we can improve the city," she said.
In the next four years, the city will continue work on ball diamonds and a walking path near Springville High School. Work on improving the city's water system and electrical system also should continue. Officials are working to update the master plan and expect the plan to be complete next year.
Most growth likely will occur in the west and northeast parts of the city, and all three incumbents say it will be challenging to make sure the growth is properly managed.
