The Salt Lake Golden Eagles were unable to hold onto a 3-1 first period lead, bowing to the Las Vegas Thunder, 6-5, Friday night. With the loss, the Eagles' season record dropped to 3-9-1 while Las Vegas improved to 9-2-1.

Goals by Dave Chyzowski, Chris Luongo and Joe Day gave Salt Lake its first period lead and a second-period goal by Darryl Olsen extended to 4-2 before Las Vegas took over. Las Vegas scored four straight goals to take a 6-4 lead before Sandy Smith scored for the Eagles to make the final score 6-5. The two teams meet again tonight in Las Vegas.
