The Steve Gilbert Great Hall will be formally dedicated at a ceremony and dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1993, at 6 p.m.

Located in the R. Haze Hunter Conference Center at Southern Utah University, the assembly facility has undergone a thorough remodeling and major upgrade, made possible through a significant contribution by Steve and Cindy Gilbert of Toquerville.Steve Gilbert is the owner and major stockholder in Gilbert Developemnt Co., Gilbert Development Corp., Gilbert Enterprises, Big "O" Pizza and Diamond "G" Rodeos Inc. He is primarily responsible for the reopening of the iron mining industry in Iron County. Gilbert is a former member of the Brian Head Town Council.

Cindy Woodbury Gilbert is a Cedar City native and a 1980 graduate of SUU. She holds a juris doctor degree from J. Reuben Clark Jr. Law School at Brigham Young University. She is also a former member of the Utah State Board of Regents and is president-elect of the SUU Alumni Association.

The centerpiece of the new Hunter Conference Center, the Steve Gilbert Great Hall is designed to resemble an Olde Great Hall. It contains an exposed wooden beam ceiling with buttresses ending in carved beehives, full audio-visual facilities and a three-panel stained glass window featuring the university's motto, "Learning Lives Forever."

The stained glass windows were contributed to the university by Mr. and Mrs. Jay Dee Harris of Tremonton and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Peterson of Hurricane. The Great Hall also features a new Yamaha baby grand piano, a gift from Jim and Janet Rogers and their company, KVBC Broadcasting Channel 3, in Las Vegas, Nev.

The public is invited to attend the dedication dinner with music by SUU alumna Christine Winterose and the student group Acclamation, with tribute by family and friends. Resevations can be obtained by calling 586-7702.
