Despite a season-high 191.15, the Utah State University women's gymnastics team finished third behind the University of Michigan and Brigham Young University Monday night in Logan. Michigan, which is ranked 12th in the nation, won the tri-meet with a 192.25 and BYU finished second with a 191.20.
Brigham Young University's Juliet Bangerter captured the all-around title with a 38.85.The losses dropped the Aggies season record to 6-6 and evened up the season series between BYU and USU. The 16th-ranked Aggies had previously defeated the Cougars in the Smiths Challenge Cup.
The Wolverines led after the first rotation scoring a 47.6 on the floor. BYU was close behind with a 47.25 on the bars, while the Aggies scored a 46.8 on the vault. USU was led by Stacy Lynn's 9.55 and the Cougars top scorer was Julie Bangerter's 9.8.
Led by Wendy Marshall's 9.86 on the vault, Michigan widened its lead to 96.05, while BYU had a 95.05 and USU a 94.86 after the second rotation. The Ags were paced by Tonja Ockaskis' 9.75 on the bars for a 48.05 and the Cougars by Bangerter's 9.85 for a 47.8 on the balance beam.
Michigan scored a 48.15 on the bars during the evening's third rotation while USU scored a 47.65 on the beam and the Cougars a 48.55 on the floor. USU was led by Tonja Ockaskis and Summer Oveson who each scored a 9.65 on the beam. Oveson's score was a career best.
The Aggies got their highest marks of the evening on the floor exercise with a season best 48.65.
