The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has voted the Gordon E. Sawyer Award to Erich Kaestner for his contributions to the development of the Arriflex camera.

Kaestner, design engineer for Arriflex, is the 10th recipient of the award, established in 1980 to recognize lifetime achievements by individuals for technical contributions in the motion picture industry.Kaestner's design of a spinning mirror reflex shutter is incorporated in all modern movie cameras. He will be presented with the Oscar statuette at the academy's Scientific and Technical Awards ceremonies March 6 at Los Angeles' Century Plaza Hotel.
