Verlie Loosli Dayton passed away at home on Monday, March 22, 1993 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born March 31, 1918 in Wellsville, Utah, a daughter of Ernest and Margaret Broby Loosli. Verlie was raised in Providence where she graduated from South Cache High School.On August 2, 1938, she married Dello G. Dayton in the Logan LDS Temple. They were happily married for 43 years until she was preceded in death by her beloved Dello in 1981.

Verlie had been a resident of the Ogden area since 1954. She and Dello previously lived in California, Texas, and France. Together they enjoyed involvement in the academic, cultural, and social affairs of Weber State College where Dello served as a professor and administrator for 34 years, and she was an active member and officer of the Faculty Wives Association.

She was a member of the Shadow Ridge Ward and served in various church auxiliaries, but had a special love for Relief Society. Verlie worked for short periods of time at F.W. Woolworth, J.C. Penney, and Deseret Book Stores.

Verlie's great love of beauty and nature was evident in her fashionable appearance, elegantly decorated home, and her lovingly tended yard. She had a special love for trees and roses. She was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain friends and family. Verlie's greatest joys in live were centered around family and friends. Her inquisitive mind and love of learning and the arts resulted in her being widely read and involved in many activities. She was a literary club member for about 40 years and enjoyed attending the symphony and other cultural events in the community.

Surviving her are two daughters and one son; Gay (Robert) DeLange, Los Angeles; Kathy (Roy) Van Orman, Bountiful; Joel Kim (Marianne) Dayton, North Canton, Ohio; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Also surviving are her step-mother, Erma Loosli, Logan; six sisters, Mildred Ridd, Salt Lake City; Doris (Jack) Chadwick, Mae (George) Kamilos, Joy (William) Morris, all of Sacramento, Calif.; Margaret (Wendell) Olsen, Providence, Utah; Ines (Evan) Olsen, Young Ware, Utah; and two brothers, Vincent (Annabelle) Loosli, Brigham City; and Don (Donna) Looski, Nibley, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Del Loosli.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 12 noon at Leavitt's Chapel of Flowers Mortuary, 836-36th St., Ogden. Friends may call at the mortuary Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 11-11:45 a.m. Interment, Leavitt's Aultorest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Weber State University or Community Nursing Hospic of Clearfield.
