Avalanche control crews closed Little Cottonwood Canyon early Monday while using cannons to dislodge unstable snow accumulations from the weekend storm.

The canyon highway was closed about 6:45 a.m. and reopened about 8 a.m. For safety reasons, Utah Department of Transportation crews routinely close the road while blasting after snowstorms that leave dangerous amounts of snow in avalanche-prone areas.
